Ever wonder where your contacts go when you throw them out? They are often incinerated, dumped in the landfill, or end up in the ocean which pollutes our ecosystems. Did you know that since 2016 over 14,000 pounds of contact lens materials and packaging have been recycled? You, too, could be part of TerraCycle’s zero waste initiative.
TerraCycle reuses, upcycles and recycles waste which moves waste from a linear system to a circular one, allowing it to keep cycling in our economy. Recycling billions of pieces of waste through various innovative platforms, this company offers free programs for your hard-to-recycle waste.
Eyecare Associates is proud to be a part of this modern-day solution. Each exam room is equipped with a small receptacle for all of your contact lens recycling needs. This includes the contact lens itself, the top foil, and the plastic blister packs; everything but the liquid.
You are welcome to bring your contact lens waste into our office, and our staff will be more than happy to ensure that it gets recycled properly. This is just one of the many things that Eyecare Associates is doing to help our environment and improve it for the next generation.
